Defender Vs. The Competition

Land Rover Defender

The Defender, the Original Sport Utility Vehicle

Land Rover Coral Gables is proud to offer the Defender. While other off-roaders were built before, the Defender was the first sold intentionally for sport and utility. From hunting the highlands of Scotland to farming the fields of the Cotswolds to cruising the streets of Miami, FL, the Defender can do it all.

The Competition

Some argue the Defender has no competition, but it does share in a class of large luxury Sport Utility Vehicles. Comparable vehicles are the Porsche Cayenne, the Genesis GV80, and the Volvo XC90. While they are all great options, the Defender is still the ultimate SUV to drive around South Miami.

Comfort and Style

While other comparable vehicles lean heavily into luxury, the Defender holds on to its roots with an elegant mix of premium interior finishes while remaining utilitarian. Exposed rivets on the door remind drivers that this is a rugged vehicle. The magnesium beam running across the dash is elegant but also structural. The competition may produce capable vehicles, but they seem to want drivers to forget these vehicles can take you beyond the hard pavement roads of Pinecrest.

The Defender also offers more headroom than other manufacturers by more than an inch and a half. While this might not seem important, taller drivers and passengers will be thankful for the added room.

Fuel Capacity

A vehicle designed for adventure and work should be able to get you there without constantly needing to refuel. The Defender offers that. The Defender offers 23.8 gallons of fuel capacity offering 452 miles of range. The Cayenne comes close with 23.7 and 450 miles of range. The Genesis only has a range of 443 miles. The Volvo does come out on top, but it is only available as a hybrid. When you need to get to where you're going, the Defender is the vehicle to do it.

Get Where you Want to Go

As mentioned, the Defender is built to get you where you want to go. Featuring 8.9 inches of ground clearance, the Defender bests the competition in this category. The Volvo is close, just a mere 10th of an inch less. So, no matter what obstacles are in your way, the Defender can get you there. The Defender is also about an inch narrower at the mirrors than the competition, allowing you to fit in tighter spots. The Volvo again comes close at 84.3 inches wide at the mirrors, but still not as agile as the Defender.

Fording

When talking about going anywhere, the Defender can indeed go anywhere, able to ford up to 35.4 inches of water. When your family is in trouble, the Defender will get you where you want to go, even with no roads or solid ground. The Porsche is the second closest, with only 19.6 inches of fording.

While this feature is not practical for every day, when the world throws you a curveball, you will have the ability to get to safety. Or your special campground on the other side of the creek that no one else can access.
